Privacy Policy

Who we are

UK Land Tracker is a public-interest project that publishes UK land use and food policy data. The site is run by Lauren Brassaw as an individual data controller.

For any privacy questions, requests for access, deletion, correction, or to lodge a complaint, contact lauren@cocomoondesign.com.

What we collect

We deliberately collect as little personal data as possible. There is no account system, no email signup, and no comments. The site is a one-way information feed.

The two places where personal data may be processed are:

  • Server access logs. When you visit the site, the web server records the IP address, the URL you requested, your browser user-agent, and the time of the request. We use this only to investigate abuse, debug errors, and operate the service. Logs are retained for up to 30 days and then deleted.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running and securing the service).
  • Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read. Analytics are off by default — we only set the analytics cookie if you accept it on the consent banner. Google receives a truncated IP, page paths, and basic device information. Google is a separate data controller for this data; see Google's privacy policy.
Lawful basis: consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser data for this site.

We do not use advertising trackers, social-media pixels, fingerprinting, or any other tracking technology.

Following updates by RSS

To follow updates without giving us any personal data at all, subscribe to the RSS feed in your reader of choice. No account or email address is required.

Who we share data with

  • Our hosting provider — to run the servers that serve this site.
  • Google Analytics — only if you accept analytics on the consent banner.
  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — we load the site's typefaces from Google's CDN. Google receives your IP and the page URL on every page load. This happens regardless of your analytics consent choice.
  • CARTO and OpenStreetMap (basemaps.cartocdn.com) — map tiles on the decisions and dashboard pages are served by CARTO's CDN. They receive your IP when a map renders.

We do not sell personal data to anyone, and we do not transfer it outside the UK/EEA except as part of the third-party services above (which transfer data to the US under their own standard contractual clauses).

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • access any personal data we hold about you,
  • request correction or deletion of inaccurate data,
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests,
  • withdraw consent for analytics at any time,
  • lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office — ico.org.uk/concerns.

Because we don't link server logs or analytics data to any account identifier, our ability to respond to access or deletion requests is limited to the data we can identify (for example, by IP address you supply).

Cookies

The only cookie we set ourselves is a small record of your consent choice on the cookie banner, so we don't ask you again on every visit. Google Analytics sets its own cookies if and only if you grant analytics consent.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle personal data, we'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Substantive changes will be flagged at the top of the home page for at least 30 days.
